Aims of the Department

“Information Technology and Business are becoming inextricably interwoven. I don't think anybody can talk meaningfully about one without them talking about the other”… Bill Gates

At La Sainte Union, we aim to inspire pupils and create curiosity about the wider world of commerce and computing. To this end, we focus on active learning strategies and an enquiry based model for the BECS Curriculum.

We want to help pupils learn to :

  • develop, maintain and stimulate an interest and enjoyment in the use of BECS theory, software and equipment;
  • develop the appropriate skills, principles, methods and terminology and the ability to communicate and interpret information and concepts relevant to computing;
  • assess and monitor their progress and ensure progression and continuity in the acquisition of skills;
  • have equal access to ICT and experience success in their work;
  • use ICT to improve their learning experiences, especially those pupils with learning difficulties or disabilities;
  • use ICT to enhance, enrich and extend learning;
  • to adapt to the rapid technological changes in society and to include programming and coding;
  • develop an awareness of ethical, social, economic and political consequences of Business and ICT to individuals and society.
