Modern Languages
Our aims and objectives relate directly to those of the school where the focus is on the development of students through effective teaching and learning within a Christian ethos. Our aim is to strive for excellence through the consistent application of standards and by continually monitoring and reviewing our practice in order to:

Promote language learning as a valuable, rewarding and enjoyable experience.

Provide students with the opportunity for the successful learning of modern foreign languages through a “can do” communicative approach using the range of resources available appropriately

Equip students with a range of structure, skills and vocabulary in order to understand and respond effectively.

Enable students to work independently, in pairs and as part of a group or team in a variety of activities, so that the learning of each foreign language contributes to the development of core skills such as ICT, listening, reading, speaking and writing.

Value and encourage each student so that she gives of her best irrespective of ability.

Encourage students to consider each foreign language as a major cultural feature and in doing so increase language and cultural awareness.

Encourage a positive attitude towards learning a foreign language and to speakers of that language and a sympathetic approach to other cultures and civilisations.

Develop further cultural awareness through a programme of visits covering all three key stages.
