Our School
LSU was founded in 1861 by the Sisters of La Sainte Union who are its trustees. The congregation has a long tradition in education both at home and abroad.
The following statements reflect the most recent Ofsted inspection:
Inspired by the teachings of Jesus Christ, LSU offers a broad and balanced curriculum where pupils are enabled to fulfil their potential. Pupils are enthusiastic about learning. Their attitudes and behaviour are very good. They are encouraged to be independent and become lifelong learners.
The school is a very harmonious community. The strong ethos based on the Catholic faith, permeates all aspects of school life and supports excellently the spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development of pupils and sixth formers.
The school’s success owes much to a well qualified and dedicated staff. Teachers have a strong sense of commitment and use their very good subject knowledge to provide interesting lessons in which pupils learn well. They have high expectations of their pupils. Relationships are excellent and help create a good atmosphere for learning and achievement.
Partnerships with parents, church and the local community continue to develop.
Links with parents have a strong impact on pupils’ learning. The parents’ association is active in support of the school’s activities. Links with further and higher education are very effective.
Through its main committees, the governing body is very active and has considerable expertise which benefits the school greatly.
A Recipient of many awards in the past, the school’s designation as a Specialist Science College in September 2004 is a significant achievement which affords young women challenging opportunities and responsibilities as future citizens.
Sixth Form Provision
La Sainte Union is a partner with three other schools which form the La Swap Consortium. New entrants make up one third of the Consortium.
A noteworthy strength is the exceptionally broad offer of academic and vocational courses. It is annually over-subscribed.
There is no substitute for a visit to LSU and meeting representatives of pupils and staff who contribute to this special community.
