‘Using ICT to Make Globalisation Happen’
Information Communications Technology has revolutionised the way we live; it has had a huge impact on the way we communicate, work, shop, learn and play. Integrated technologies such as the Internet and mobile phones enable us to interact in a rich virtual environment, with opportunities for all.
To meet national curriculum requirements and challenge pupils, we at LSU have adapted the DFES sample teaching units for Years 7-9. Each unit is tailored to suit our own lesson structure, content and delivery.
At LSU we have a wireless network with 9 dedicated ICT suites, over 310 personal computers and cutting edge hardware and software inline with industry standards. ICT teaches the skills and concepts necessary to enable our pupils to access the whole school curriculum. Our specific contribution to the curriculum includes; Internet research, data processing, applying mathematical ideas through the use of formulae, test ideas through modelling and simulations, presentations, analysis of information and business enterprise management; which reinforce core numeracy and literacy skills.
Pupils learn to build their knowledge and skills to tackle key stage 3 & 4 projects and coursework, which follow the project development life cycle, shown below.
ICT allows pupils to access the curriculum in all subjects, and we teaching pupils to become critical thinkers and problem solve using all available ICT resources to collate information to present various possible solutions through communication and technology.
Each pupil receives 1 hour of ICT timetabled per week, as well as free access to ICT suites morning, lunch time and after school, with a dedicated specialist ICT teacher. ICT lessons comprise of a variety of activities including; computer work, pair work, group work, homework (rarely computer based) and independent learning sessions.
