Media Studies

Media Studies is offered as an A-level at La Sainte Union.  Students who undertake the course learn to become media analysts and producers as opposed to consumers of the mass media. By undertaking the subject, students learn to filter out the hidden messages and meanings encoded by institutions of print media, television, radio, the Internet, video games and new digital technologies.

The Department adapts to new challenges facing students in the modern world, educating them about the world they live in and ensuring students become media literate citizens.

Students undertake units in textual analysis, new media technologies, two pieces of practical coursework, and write discursive essays on contemporary media issues and debates. The department aims to mix a balance of theoretical work with practical productions. 50% of the course is practical based, with students accessing industry standard software and materials.
