Support for Learning

The Support For Learning Department

In the spirit of ‘Every Child Matters’, La Sainte Union acknowledges that every girl is special, every girl is valued and every girl has the right to an appropriate education, with work set at the right level so that it is challenging and enjoyable.

As an inclusive school, the following principles serve to guide the school in meeting a pupil’s individual special needs:

  • equality of provision, flexible and appropriate
  • full access to the National Curriculum as far as possible within the ordinary classroom
  • shared responsibility of all staff within the school
  • working in partnership with parents, carers and outside agencies

In year 7, pupils with SEN are identified prior to transfer through information from Primary Schools and from the CAT’s tests. Where needed, certain pupils will be taught in small English and Mathematics classes.

In years 8 and 9, pupils whose literacy skills remain a cause for concern will be taught in a Support for Learning group instead of taking a second foreign language.

In years 10 and 11, identified pupils will take the Support for Learning option to further develop their literacy and study skills, and will receive support with coursework in examination subjects.

Access

There are four separate buildings on site. Wheelchair access is good in most areas and the school is always happy for prospective parents to visit.
