Aims of the Department

Geography is the subject that holds the keys to our future” (Michael Palin).

Geography is about the world today – a unique, dynamic and inspiring place which is constantly changing.  Studying Geography helps us to understand the physical and human processes which shape our world. It gives us knowledge about people and places and how we interact with different environments.  Studying Geography also builds on a range of skills, developing pupils' abilities at map reading, plus transferable skills such as numeracy and literacy.

At La Sainte Union, we aim to inspire pupils and create a curiosity about the world in which we live. Through the geographical education we provide, we aim to:

  • Develop knowledge of people and places and how they inter-relate; human and physical environments; people-environment relationships; and causes and consequences of change.
  • Develop skills for geographical enquiry.
  • Develop a sense of awe and wonder about places.
  • Develop not only a concern for the world around us, but also a willingness to take positive action to support students in becoming global citizens.
  • Help students to make sense of the rapidly changing world and their place in it.
