Aims of department

❝If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his own language, that goes to his heart.
‒Nelson Mandela

At La Sainte Union, we aim to teach a language to a high standard to all pupils, giving them confidence and great success at GCSE and beyond.  We want students to grow in their imagination, literacy, thinking and listening skills as well as being able to chat away in French or Spanish by the end of a five year course.  We encourage students to write creatively, adapting language structures and selecting the widest possible range of expressive adjectives, nouns and verbs from a good dictionary.  We aim to broaden our pupils’ cultural experiences through an excellent programme of Spanish and French films and we facilitate their success with pen friends in France and Spain as well as visits to these wonderful countries.
